Reports Concerning Switzerland and Liechtenstein

The U.S. Department of State and other Executive Branch agencies produce many periodic reports, which describe conditions in other countries on a wide range of issues. Most of the reports are mandated by U.S. legislation.

The U.S. Congress orders reports for the purpose of analyzing its own resource allocation for international efforts. Usually, an issue report is written for every country. For example, Congress would want to know which countries suffer from a particular problem before authorizing foreign aid funds to fight the problem in those countries. Similarly, Congress would want to know whether funding a partnership with a foreign country to fight a particular problem would make sense, given the foreign country's own history with that problem.

Sometimes the Executive Branch requires a report on a country for a specific issue, because there is legislation that stipulates how bilateral relations will be affected if a country is not living up to its international obligations on that issue.

Because State Department and other Executive Branch reports are paid for with public funds, those documents which do not contain sensitive information are generally made available to the public. This web site offers links to the following reports concerning Switzerland and Liechtenstein:
