Immigrant Visas
What to bring to your Immigrant Visa Interview appointment
The Packet 4 (Pkt4) is the last package which should be obtained before coming to the final interview.
In order to process the interview quickly and easily each visa applicant is required to bring following documents to the appointment:
Passport – valid for 8 months beyond intended date of entry into the United States
Police Certificate(s) – of all previous stay
Birth Certificate
Marriage Certificate (if applicable)
Divorce decree, or death certificate of spouse (if applicable)
Court and prison records (if applicable)
Military record (if applicable)
Regardless of age, all intending immigrants are required to undergo medical examinations. The medical examination should be performed two weeks before the interview appointment day.
All documents not in English or in one of the official Swiss language must be accompanied by a certified translation into English. Translations must be certified by a competent translator and sworn to before a Notary Public.
All documents should be in original and one photocopy attached.
Most Important
No assurance can be given in advance that a visa will be issued. A consular officer can make a decision only after you have been personally interviewed by that officer.
We advise you not to make any travel arrangements for departure from this country, not to dispose of your property or give up your job until the visa has been issued to you. An immigrant visa is usually valid for six months from the date of issuance.
The Embassy will make every effort to expedite your visa application on the day of your appointment, but it is a process which does require several hours. It is possible that you will have to spend the entire morning or afternoon in the office before final action can be taken on your application. Should complications arise, it is unlikely that you will receive the visa on the day of your appointment; you may have to return to this office another time.
