On Thursday May 12, Bern City Mayor Alexander Tschäppät, Dr. Peter Proché of Allianz Suisse and U.S. Ambassador Pamela P. Willeford participated in an official lease signing ceremony at the U.S. Ambassador’s Residence in Bern.  The ceremony formalized the Embassy’s plans to move to Sulgeneckstrasse 19, which is expected to take place in early 2007.  The new location for the U.S. Embassy is considered a win-win situation for the Embassy, the city of Bern and the local community.  It offers a central location, it provides easy accessibility for public visitors and it meets the embassy’s requirements for security.
