Ambassador Donald S. Beyer, Jr. and U.S. Embassy Bern staff celebrated the U.S. elections on Wednesday morning with a public viewing event at Starbucks Hirschengraben. The Election Morning Celebration venue was open to regular customers as well as invitees, resulting in a warm and inviting atmosphere where invited guests mingled with commuters dropping in on their way to work.

Interest in the U.S. elections was high amongst the Swiss public from the start; with newspapers, bloggers and economic and political leaders following the presidential race closely and numerous in-depth articles published in the run up to election night. The outcome of the elections was a matter of concentrated debate and subject to significant political analysis. This interest was reflected in the large number of visitors attending the Election Morning Celebration, which started at 5:30 a.m. and continued past 8 a.m., by which time President Obama had finished his speech.
