22 May 2007 -- U.S. Embassy Bern Hosts Law Enforcement Day
Law Enforcement Representatives Celebrate International Cooperation
On Tuesday, May 22, Ambassador Peter R. Coneway and law enforcement personnel from the U.S. Embassy in Bern hosted approximately 220 members of the Swiss and Liechtenstein law enforcement communities for a reception honoring international cooperation.
In his opening remarks, Ambassador Coneway commented, "Criminals and terrorists operate throughout the world and they are more than willing to take advantage of our free, democratic societies. That makes our job challenging. U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff has said, ‘We have to get it right 100% of the time. Those who wish to do us harm only have to get it right once.’" Embassy staff thanked their law enforcement colleagues and stressed the need for continued close cooperation in the fight against transnational crime.
