Adding Visa Pages to your passport

 Although pages can be added ONLY in Bern, you are welcome to drop off your request for pages and pay the fee in the Zurich and Geneva Consular Agencies.   They will then forward your request to the Embassy in Bern.

BY MAIL

 Mail the following items to the American Citizen Services, U.S. Embassy, P.O. Box, 3001 Bern: 

  • Completed form DS-4085 "Application For Additional Visa Pages" http://www.state.gov/documents/organization/80120.pdf  
  • Your U.S. passport
  • A self-addressed, stamped envelope (Fr. 1.-- stamp for A- post, or a Fr. 5.-- stamp if you want it returned by registered mail)
  •  The fee for adding visa pages is US $82.00 or Sfr. 73.80.   The Swiss franc amount is calculated by the Embassy based on an average exchange rate, not the daily rate used by banks and post offices. 
  • Pay the fee at the post office as follows --

 The way to pay in Swiss Francs is with the white postal money order (Postanweisung für das Inland/Mandat de poste interne/Vaglia postale interno) to the following address:

NOTE: When you pay at the post office, please be sure the passport fee is NOT paid into the Embassy's Machine Readable Visa (MRV) postal account No 30-39699-5! This account is reserved for non-immigrant visa applicants. Payments made to this account CANNOT BE REFUNDED. Your postal money order must NOT indicate an account number. Please indicate the passport bearer's name if this is different than that of the sender.

The Embassy may not accept payment in any form of check.

The Embassy does not accept cash in any currency sent by mail and takes no responsibility for money sent in an envelope.  Any cash the Embassy receives by mail will be returned. Swiss francs will be returned with a postal money order, minus the post office fee.  Bank transfers are not possible.

The Embassy requires a minimum of 5 working days to process requests for additional pages by mail.

**Closure Dates**

 If you prefer not to mail your passport, cannot manage without it for a few days, or need extra pages urgently, you can usually obtain the service the same day if you go to the U.S. Embassy in Bern.  Please see above for a list of the required documents.  You can obtain and complete form DS-4085 at the Embassy and pay the fee of US $82.00 or CHF 73.80 in either currency or with a credit card at our cashier window. 

 In exceptional cases, if you are unable to go yourself, someone else can take your passport to Bern.  However, it must be the bearer of the passport who completes and signs form DS-4085 "Application For Additional Visa pages", and the bearer must write a letter authorizing the person to undertake the transaction on his/her behalf.  That person must be able to identify himself/herself.

 The American Citizen Services unit (ACS) is open to the public Monday-Friday from 09:00 - 11:30.  The Embassy is closed on Swiss and American holidays.  You can reach us by telephone at 031/357 70 11 between 14:00-17:00; by fax at 031/357 7280;
